Fly Drift

A fly or periwinkle will rid fish of lockjaw

Timothy Kusherets

Fly’s in the seam of fast water with a sinking tippet and leader offers a presentation option for salmon and trout pressured by gear fishermen.
Most of the time specific fishing techniques separate while on the water: Fly fishermen with fly fishermen; bobber-jig fishermen with other jig fishermen; Spoons with Spoons, and bait with bait…you get the picture.
Whenever the water has been pounded by gear-headers, (steelheaders) fish in between them whenever possible and hookups will happen in moments. A natural presentation of a fly or periwinkle will rid fish of lockjaw and put one on the fryer. Give it a try, but don’t forget to ask before invading the territory of another fishing technique. It’s just good manners to ask. I like to be asked and so do a lot of other anglers.
